an ignorant generation

I was just at Vons doing some last minute Christmas dinner shopping and I overheard a conversation between the manager of the store and one of the bag guys.  He walked into the store (it seemed like it was the beginning of his shift) and she immediately complimented him on his tie.  It wasn't anything spectacular, but he was wearing one, which I think was the greatest motivator of the compliment.  He smiled and said, "This is the first time I've tied my own tie!"  

Pause.  This guy isn't seven years old.  He's probably 20.  He's never tied his own tie!?  

"My mom wasn't home and I knew I couldn't do it by myself, so I looked it up on youtube--'how to tie a tie.' "
